This house has cavity wall insulation and double glazing throughout while a woodburning stove adds to the coziness in the main living room. A 1.7kWpeak solar PV array on the roofproduces around 1,500kWh of electricity per year but energy requirements are reduced through the use of CFL or LED lights and drying clothes on a line and pulley. The family compost all their garden and kitchen waste, collect rainwater for outdoor use and grow lots of fruit in the garden. They are also happy to share their experiences of choosing to cycle/walk to work, eating at least 1 vegetarian meal per week and buying ‘pre-loved’ (as they say in the USA).

GETTING THERE:
If you can, please cycle, walk or take bus no.26 or 27 to Broadway Shops. The house can be easily reached from the riverside cycle path via Broadway - download York Cycle Map or use i-TravelYork to plan your journey by any means. If needed, nearest public parking is in front of Broadway shops, about 50 yards from the house.
